Joyful Militancy

2021 - a workshop with Silvia Federici

Joyful Militancy is an audiovisual report made by Aïlien Reyns of  a 6 hour long zoom workshop with Silvia Federici and 3o activists/academics and artists organised on 29 October 2020. The film premiered at Kunsthal Gent on the 5th of March 2021 as part for THE STRIKE event on the power of Not Doing, and was edited as an audiovisual catalysor for the collective development of the Toolkit for Reproductive labour.

The workshop with Silvia Federici revolved around ‘re-imagining and rebuilding infrastructures of social reproduction’, and the joyfully militant practice of Silvia Federici, who is renowned for her research and activism by at the intersection of women’s, anti-capitalist, and anti-colonial struggles. Silvia Federici joined us online for the full 6 hours of the workshop. Through objects related to the home, a shared reading session, a digital dinner during which (food) stories were shared, an extensive contribution by Silvia Federici and discussions in small groups, the aim was to start building a toolkit for social reproduction; that could help us to respond to the urgent questions of this moment of global crisis and opportunities for a new common living environment.
