2015 - Sculptural intervention in the public space

Sculptural intervention in the public space at Nowy Port, Gdansk.

11 golden tags in morse code

Realized in collaboration with Laurent Trezegnies.

For our participation in the group exhibition during the Flanders week at Łaznia, Centre for Contemporary Art in Gdansk, we chose to render the topic of our research as well as our presence as artists in residency in an(other) underdeveloped neighbourhood of Gdanks visible to the public both in and outside of the arts center.

Along the tour we walked the first day of our arrival at Nowy Port-Gdansk, we applied on eleven selected points the letters of my project title “are you there” in golden sprayed morse code. It is this code that has been used for decades to communicate over long distance, not in the least by the lighthouse of nowy port itself.

By the use of the map, visitors were invited to take this walk through the (depopulated) streets of Nowy Port, in reference to the journey undertook by the labour emigrants who left these neighbourhoods. A minimal intervention in the public space that unites place, form and content of the audiovisual work ‘Are you there?’ I we were realizing there until the end of april 2015.’
